Eight Celebrities You Didn’t Know Had Hearing Loss

Hearing loss is a common condition that affects millions of people worldwide, including many famous individuals. In fact, many celebrities and historical figures have openly discussed their hearing loss and how they cope with it. Here are examples of some famous people with hearing loss and/or hearing aids, highlighting their achievements and how they have overcome their hearing difficulties.

1. Ludwig van Beethoven: Beethoven was a famous composer who began to lose his hearing in his late twenties. He continued to compose music despite his hearing loss and was completely deaf by the time he composed his Ninth Symphony. He conducted some of his works while completely deaf.

2. Thomas Edison: Edison, the inventor of the phonograph and many other devices, suffered from hearing loss throughout his life. He attributed his hearing loss to a train incident in which he was thrown from a train and injured his head.

3. Halle Berry: is an actress who has been open about her hearing loss. She lost 80% of her hearing in one ear after being involved in a domestic abuse altercation.

4. Bill Clinton: Clinton is a former President of the United States who wears hearing aids due to noise-induced hearing loss from playing the saxophone.

5. Whoopi Goldberg: Goldberg is an actress and comedian who has been open about her hearing loss. She wears hearing aids due to damage from years of performing on stage.

6. Alexander Graham Bell: the inventor of the telephone, had a profound hearing loss that inspired him to work on developing technologies to help people with hearing difficulties.

7. Marlee Matlin: Matlin is an actress who is deaf and communicates using American Sign Language (ASL). She has won numerous awards for her acting, including an Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in “Children of a Lesser God”

8. Lou Ferrigno: Ferrigno is an actor and bodybuilder who wears hearing aids due to childhood ear infections that caused him to lose 75-80% of his hearing.
