Central Auditory Processing Disorder Assessment (CAPD)

CAPD is a disorder that looks like hearing loss, when in fact hearing is often normal. When an individual has CAPD, the brain has difficulty processing, and interpreting sounds. CAPD assessments use a battery of tests to realize challenges in sound processing in the brain.

Symptoms of CAPD include:

  • Behavioral problems in school

  • School performance that is poorer than expected

  • Difficulties focusing and distractibility

  • Challenges in noise are greater than expected for normal hearing

  • Difficulties following verbal directives

  • Symptoms similar to hearing loss despite normal hearing
